The Ancients

About This Project

“The textures of the design represents the antique quality of the music. The four bars are representative of the four different songs in the EP. Each bar encompasses part of the character of each song that it correlates too. It was meant to be simple and abstract. The key note is also that the four bars are interrelated but separated at the same time.” -Chris Russo

The Ancients was a freelance project I created for Chris and his music group known as Polygraf. The Ancients is Polygraf’s EP; it is electronic music inspired by the Asian culture, and he wanted this theme to be reflected in the cover. Inspired by artwork associated with the Asian culture, I chose to create each piece of art with watercolor and nature brushes within Adobe Photoshop.

As stated above from Chris, there are four tracks with the EP, each represented by the four different pieces of artwork. The goal for this project was to allow for the four pieces of artwork to speak for the track while working as one whole piece. The design is a simple layout of four rectangles within one square. This approach was taken so as to not take away from the artwork in the four bars. In addition to the cover work, I created a poster and concert tickets that correspond with the work.
