Kool Cat Microbrewery is a branding project created for my senior thesis. It combines my parent’s interest in home brewing and my interest in brand design. Since the microbrewery is representing the beer my parents brew, I had them name the microbrewery.
The inspiration for the brand—the colors, typefaces, and logo— came from the speakeasy environment that was created during the 1920s after the passing of the eighteenth amendment. The colors were darker with gold accents and the typefaces had contrast between the thickness of lines; it was the age of Art Deco. Nowadays, speakeasies are popular places for people to go to feel the excitement of the prohibition era, when drinking alcohol had to be done in secret. This is what I wanted to reflect in my senior thesis.
